Located in Newport Beach, Corona del Mar is vibrant part of the city. Corona del Mar encompasses all the area on the sea side of the San Joaquin Hills and south Avocado Avenue to the city limits. The only exception to this is the Irvine Terrace development, which is north of Avocado, but still part of the Corona del Mar community. Known locally as the CDM, Corona del Mar is Spanish for “Crown of the Sea.” Corona del Mar is known for its fine beaches, tidepools, cliffside views, and quaint village shops. Corona del Mar is 35 miles south of Los Angeles and 77 miles north of San Diego. There are many shopping and dining options available across Newport Beach, but Corona del Mar proper is home to Fashion Island. Fashion Island is a large outdoor mall with fine dining, world class shopping and great entertainment options.
Corona del Mar was first settled in the early 1900’s. The older sections of Corona del Mar are home to closely spaced, detached, single family homes. The homes showcase a large variety of architectural styles. In the more newly developed sections of the Corona del Mar, such as, Harbor View Hills, homes are ranch style, giving way to expansive ocean views. Whether you are looking in a new development or an established neighborhood, the Franco Team of real estate professionals can help you find your perfect Corona del Mar home. Corona del Mar homes offer far reaching views of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, Newport Coast, Newport Harbor, canyons, city night lights, and breathtaking sunsets. Due to its cliff side height, some homes have views all the way to Palos Verdes. Also, Corona del Mar has strict bylaws regarding height restrictions; therefore no one’s views will be impeded. There are many different neighborhoods in Corona del Mar to choose from including; Bayside Drive, Jasmine Creek, Corona del Mar Custom homes, Irvine Terrace, Shore Cliffs and Summerwind. Each neighborhood is distinctive, offering different views, home styles, neighborhood amenities and home values. The home values in Corona del Mar range in price from 650,000 dollars to 35 million dollars plus. There are both guard gated and non-guard gated neighborhoods to choose from.
Corona del Mar is home to the Sherman Library and Gardens. These botanical gardens are open to the public every day except major holidays. This garden experience began in 1955 when Arnold Haskell bought the Norman’s Nursery property. The property is named for Arnold Haskell’s mentor and benefactor, M.H. Sherman. The garden includes seasonal flower beds, fountains, conservatories and patios. The plant collections include a cactus garden, succulent garden, desert plants and tropical vegetation. Some of their prize plantings include a California pepper tree, orchids, heliconias and gingers. The mission of the garden is to teach the community about native plantings and how to incorporate these into local gardens.
