Laguna Niguel is home to The Niguel Botanical Preserve. This eighteen acre botanical garden is located within the Crown Valley Community Park, in the city of Laguna Niguel. The mission of the botanical garden is to create display gardens filled with plants appropriate to the Southern California climate. These plants have been gathered both locally and from regions around the world with similar climates, such as the Mediterranean. The botanical preserve started in 1981, as a community vegetable garden, with the goals of community education and creating a space for future generations. In 1985, it was incorporated as a non-profit organization and has been run as volunteer organization ever since. The gardens are loosely organized according to the plant collections based on region; Australia, Africa, South America, Mediterranean and California/Mexico.
